{February 17, 2009}   Blood Diamond

One of the most inspirational movies I have ever seen is blood diamond. This movie shows events that happen constantly in the continent of Africa. Though it is not based on a true story, the events which it shows truly have happened, and continue to happen today.

Most people do not know what people in Africa go through or the large amounts of murders that happen to innocent people there.

All though is movie is sad, it has had a such a huge impact on my that after watching it I won’t let someone buy me anything with real diamonds on it, because of the suffering people go trough to get them. Yes I have a few necklaces that are real, but I won’t accept another one because I watched that movie.

For those who haven’t watched it I strongly recommend it, sorry for not going into details about it, but I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. Wonderful film, absolutly check it out

One of the few things I remember about my High School Frashman year was watching Blood Diamond in my Government class. I think that it is awesome that this movie really impacted you so hard that you aquired these strong feelings. I whish I could say the same for me but i don’t think I took it to heart back then and infact i think I probably slept through the movie… not proud to say that I did though. Anyways I think I might just watch that movie again now and see take away more then I did in 9th grade. I have a question for you though. I think it is awesome that you go as far as never accepting real diamond jewlery, I think all people should take strong stances in what they believe in. But what about your wedding ring? If you are already engaged is your ring a fake diemond? Or if you arent married and a guy proposes to you will you not accept if it is a real diamond ring? haha it was just a question that popped into my head as I was reading and i was just curious.

My boyfriend tried getting me a real ring, and I wouldn’t take it, which is very bitchy, but he didn’t buy it yet, because he didn’t know my size. Im easy to please, a plain silver band will do, or even cz, but that movie made me not want one anymore

Hey Grace, wow! I can see that you are very passionate about this. However you might be happy to know that people are taking notice and doing things about this. The Kimberly Process is one such example. It isn’t perfect, nothing ever is, but it is helping. Also, a lot of diamond grading companies are metioning on the certificate where the diamond was mined. Diamonds are also mined in countries where the standards and work conditions are better, such as Canada and Australia. Don’t give up on a gĂrls’ best friend yet!

this is true, but for some reason I still don’t want them anymore, I guess I just feel that if I don’t want one it’ll make for less demand. Dumb, I know
