Millions of good writers start their pieces with first drafts. These drafts are what they use to build up ideas. Most people who have writen, have used this form of writing atleast once.
Anne Lammot’s essay “Shitty First Drafts” explains more into depth how these drafts are so important. She reminds other writers why a first draft is useful and how it can improve your writings.
If you were to never edit your first draft paper, there would probably be numerous mistakes. The problem with not having more than one draft is that even though you may have checked it once, sometimes there are still mistakes in the paper.
Almost every writing I have ever done has always had a first draft. I have never given my professors one of these, for the reason of mistakes. My papers normally have hundreds of grammer usage, spelling, and confusing statement issues.
I have found that if I check my work a few times it always turns out much better. Throughout many writing experiences, my work was always worse when I only checked it once.
To this every day I tend to write about 18 drafts before I turn in my first draft to my professors.
It is always a good Idea to be safe. Remeber, the bright way is the right way.
Hey Grace, I can’t believe that you write 18 drafts! That is diligence in the extreme. But if that is truly the case then I look forward to reading your future essays.
Yeah, it’s kind of sad that I put that much time into it, but why not, I mean they give you so much time for the paper that I might as well.
This is pretty cool being able to comment on posting. Anyway I have experienced the same thing. I usually have to check and re-read my draft more than just one time to get the majority of the mistakes. I have found that having others read my papers is very helpful, sometimes a different set of eyes will catch mistakes you didn’t.
I agree, my friends are normally very helpful in telling me their opinions.
I like the way you set up your blog. It made it easy to read. You were also so descrpitive with the author’s full name and everything. As for writing papers, I do at least two drafts, but I will admit that I have turned in papers that I never went back and checked for errors…I rely on spell check a lot. I do like to do multiole drafts as well. Maybe not 18, but more like three to four. My first draft never ends up saying much though, it more a scramble of words than anything.
yeah, I guess my strange ways have gotten me into college though so I think that’s good.
